About Joanne Kaneda

  • I am honored to currently hold one of the 2 Wiseburn Unified School District (WUSD) board positions for your consideration on the November 3 ballot.
  • I have served as WUSD Board President, Vice-President, currently serve as Board representative to the technology and budget committees and serve as vice president for the Local Public School Funding Authority Board.
  • Our community is facing unprecedented health and education decisions in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. My first commitment is to safety for our students, teachers, staff and community.
  • I am a wife to my great husband Clayton, working mom of 4 sons, an aerospace professional, former university lecturer and high school teacher, leadership consultant and active community member. I have a BA in Math, Education, and Russian and an MBA.
  • As a first-generation descendant of immigrants, I am passionate about education, diversity and community.  Strong family bonds and dedication to community are foundation elements of who I am, and these same elements are deeply rooted in Wiseburn’s persona.
  • My very first job after college graduation was a high school teaching position. My first job after earning my MBA was lecturing at the university level.  I am trained as an educator and have applied my education skills throughout my personal and professional life, and my board tenure. My education background underpins my deep respect for our WUSD educators.
  • I have an extensive career in aerospace leadership in which I have managed large and small space exploration and communications programs to successful completion.  I bring these leadership skills to my WUSD position to ensure effective district resource management and fiscal solidarity.
  • Over the years, our active parenting included sports and education volunteer activities: Little League – both Aviation and Wiseburn, AYSO soccer, “room mom,” carpools, chaperoning for field trips, teaming for Rock Around the Block, and more.
  • My aerospace career led to hundreds of thousands of dollars in corporate contributions to our WUSD Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), Project Lead the Way and other important student programs.
  • The WUSD standard of excellence in education, community, safety and diversity is widely known and respected. Your vote for Joanne L Kaneda on your November 3 ballot continues my commitment to education, safety, diversity, fiscal integrity and community partnership.
